UN CINE NACIONAL EN MOVIMIENTO. POLÍTICAS PARA UNA CULTURA DE EXHIBICIÓN CINEMATOGRÁFICA

Karen Schwartzman

National Cinema in Translation.

This work by Karen Schwartzman is the result of her experience as curator of a sample of Venezuelan cinema shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art in New York in December 1994. According to this memoir, first published in Wide Angle, vol.16, Nº 3, every time the curator undertakes a job, he plays an active role as mediator between the public and the invited artist and becomes a kind of translator between one culture and another; the concepts of museum and national culture help to make a consciously active action of this role. In addition, Schwartzman gives us a brief historical outline of Venezuelan cinema which is very useful for anyone wishing to increase his or her knowledge of our cinematography
