Partiendo del análisis del film Jericó (1991) de Luis Alberto Lamata, los autores describen la forma en que es representado el indígena en el cine venezolano, utilizando para ello una metodología de análisis fílmico basada en aspectos vinculados a la narrativa. Centrándose en la revisión de las principales corrientes teórico-metodológicas de la narrativa fílmica (Chion, Seger y Vale, entre otros), y los fundamentos semióticos de Barthes, Bremond y Metz sobre la estructura del relato, se busca configurar varios procedimientos analíticos. Los resultados de esta investigación apuntan a demostrar que el equilibrio del filme está focalizado en la representación del indígena, por ser éste la motivación principal de la historia, y que la metodología de análisis utilizada probó ser útil para definir las características narrativas del film así como el conjunto de significaciones manifiestas en el discurso.
Starting from the analysis of the film Jericó (1991) of Luis Alberto Lamata, the authors describe the manner in wich the native is represented in Venezuelan cinema, using a methodology of film analysis based on aspects related to the narrative. Centered on the review of the principle theoretical and methodological currents of narrative film-making (Chion, Seger and Vale, among others), and the semiotic fundamentals of Barthes, Bremond and Metz related to the structure of the story, the configuration of several analytic procedures is presented. The results of this investigation tend to demonstrate that the equilibrium of the film is focused on the representation of the native, because he is the principal motivation of the story, and that the methodology used proved to be useful to define the narrative characteristics of the film as well as the group of meanings manifested in the discourse.
