¿VERDAD O BELLEZA?

Forty Years After El Megano.

About this Cuban film, banned by the authorities during the Batista dictatorship, García Espinosa affirms that: "This damaged, primitive little film, which has no formal charm, was disturbing because it dealt with the right to speak the truth". Today, forty years after it was first shown, the author bears witness to his admiration for El Megano, a short documentary which was the forerunner of what was to become the new Cuban cinema; and he pays homage to the "magnificent current" of Italian neorrealism, to which the new Latin American cinema owes so much.
